Radiesse®

What is Radiesse®?

Radiesse® is a dermal filler that temporarily adds volume to help smooth moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. Radiesse® is made of tiny calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel. The calcium microspheres are similar to minerals found naturally in the body so allergy testing is not required. Over time, the body absorbs the microspheres and gel, leaving behind only natural collagen.

The most common areas for using Radiesse® are the marionette lines (from the corner of your mouth to your chin) and the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the angle of the mouth).

Your Radiesse® Consultation:

When you meet with the physician, she will explain to you the Radiesse® treatment in detail, including the process and will assess your skin and review your medical history. You will be asked about any allergies you may have and what, if any, medications you are taking. All of your questions will be answered and the physician will determine if you are a good candidate for Radiesse®

The Radiesse® Procedure:

The Radiesse® treatment is performed by the physician. During treatment, Radiesse® is injected into the skin with a very fine needle. When enhancing facial contours, Radiesse® adds volume and integrates within your skin's tissue to smooth lines and wrinkles

Treatment with Radiesse® is a very quick and easy process. A treatment generally takes 30 minutes depending on the correction you wish to have performed.

Most people find the injections relatively painless. A topical and/or local anesthetic will be applied to the area being treated prior to your procedure.

The results can be seen immediately. The length of time the effect of a Radiesse® treatment lasts is very individual and depends on many factors, such as the structure of your skin, lifestyle, age, the degree of perfection demanded and the injection technique. The physician strives for natural looking results. Results with Radiesse® are expected to last up to 1 year or more, but results may vary.

Radiesse® Recovery:

Immediately after the Radiesse® treatment, you can expect slight redness, swelling, tenderness or an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal results of the injection. The discomfort is temporary and generally disappears in a few days.

The physician will instruct you to not massage or rub the treated area during the first 48 hours after your Radiesse® treatment. Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (i.e. in a solarium or by sunbathing). If you feel irritated, keep the site cool with an ice pack. Avoid taking any aspirin-based products for a few days.
